1845: The United States Congress decrees the first Tuesday after the first Monday of November to be the universal election day for presidential elections.
1907: Charles Curtis, the first Native American to serve in the United States Senate, begins his term. He later resigns to become President Herbert Hoover's vice president.
1960: Swiss engineer Jacques Piccard and U.S. Navy lieutenant Don Walsh descend into the bottom of Challenger Deep (10,915 m/35,810 ft), setting a new undersea record.
1968: United States relations with North Korea are strained after North Korean gunboats seize the crew of the U.S. Navy intelligence ship Pueblo after it had allegedly strayed into North Korean waters.
1973: President Nixon announces over nationwide television that agreement on all terms for a formal cease-fire in Vietnam have finally been reached.
1975: The hit comedy Barney Miller premieres on ABC.
1989: Salvador Dalí, Spanish painter, writer, and member of the surrealist movement, dies in Figueras, Spain, at the age of 84.

Minutes

Andy attended Midyear Presidents Meeting in Andover.

Betsey brought “Pot o' Gold” flyers for posting in member businesses or any where else you can post them, each of us is requested to take a few.

Maryellen has volunteered to be Ticket Chairperson, see her to reserve tickets and let her know how many you will need ASAP.

Davem will be collector/custodian of the scratch tickets please deliver you contribution of $10 worth of unscratched tickets to him ASAP.

$100 Annual Foundation contribution is due by the end of May, you may contribute in any amount you care to: lump sum or weekly. ($6 + per week will pay by end of May) Last year one half of the club was able to contribute. Ken or Bill will be happy to accept your contribution.

Tom currently visiting clubs when he can promoting RYLA. He recently visited Beverly and Saugus.

Evan reports he expect to reach capacity at Camp Rotary this year, 90 more or less.

Daveg attended an Outbound Conference in Philadelphia last weekend.

Andy read a letter from Dan Brosnan thanking us for our help at the B&G Club Christmas Tree Sale. A very successful year all trees and wreaths sold.

Davem and Bill report Paul Harris Dinner will be June 10th at the Sons of Italy, Installation of Officers for 2008-9, Paul Harris Fellowships and Citizen of the Year Awards, more later.
