Today in History

  • 1616: William Shakespeare, English dramatist and poet, often considered the greatest playwright in history, dies on his birthday in Stratford-upon-Avon, England.
  • 1789: U.S. president George Washington and his wife, Martha, move into the first executive mansion, the Franklin House in New York; the White House is built ten years later.
  • 1896: In New York City, Americans sit together in a theater and view a motion picture for the first time.
  • 1954: In baseball, Hank Aaron of the Milwaukee Braves hits the first of his record 755 career home runs.
  • 1969: Sirhan Sirhan is sentenced to death for the 1968 assassination of Senator Robert F. Kennedy; the sentence is later reduced to life in prison.
  • 1985: The Coca-Cola Company announces that it will change its classic formula for Coke; negative public reaction provokes a return to the old formula.

Minutes

The District Group Study Exchange team reception is Friday May 2, 2008 from 6 to 8 pm for both the outbound team and the inbound team from Brazil. It will be held at Century Bank 400 Mystic Street Medford, Ma. Cocktails and drinks will be available. RSVP rannaparekh@yahoo.com by April 25. Bill and Ken are going, as you can see by foregoing reservations closed Friday, but if you want to go you might try the website, anyway.

There is a proposal to join the Chamber, discussion next meeting.

Bill Reports: Flag Sales at Johnnies brisk and profitable $250 in 4 hours, will repeat Memorial Day and Flag Day, if a few folk will donate an hour of time between 10AM and 2PM on Saturday May 31st and Saturday June 14th.

Pres Andy presented Dan Brosnan with our annual donation to the Arlington Boys and Girls Club. Dan will be our scheduled speaker at a future date to bring us up to date on activities ant the club.

Andy will attend the District Conference. Any one else interested check with him I am sure he would like some company.

Proposal to donate $200 to AHS “Last Blast all night” Graduation Party which we do every year, vote next week. This event is very popular with the graduates and provides an alternative to smaller parties where unwise decisions could result in tragedy.

Our speaker today Bill Perrier (no connection to the water company) spoke on networking. Fun presentation, very witty everyone got into the spirit of his remarks
